Living With the Size

The five-door Thar is 4,428 mm long, and every one of those millimetres is felt in a multi-storey car park. The 5.6 m turning circle means routine manoeuvres become three-point turns. Everywhere else, the extra length is the entire point.

The One Fault

Our car developed intermittent infotainment restarts at around 2,600 km. A dealer software update in month three fixed it permanently, and the system has been stable for 5,800 km since.

What It Costs to Run

Fuel, one paid service and one warranty visit worked out to ₹6.40 per kilometre. For a 175 hp diesel SUV that spends most of its life in city traffic, that is unremarkable in the best sense.

Would We Buy One

Yes, with the automatic and without the larger wheels. The Roxx is the first Thar that does not ask you to sacrifice anything meaningful for the way it looks.

It is the first Thar you could recommend to someone who has to use it as their only car.
