Yamaha has launched the YZF-R2 in India, and unusually for the segment this is a global debut rather than an import. Prices start at ₹2,30,500 (ex-showroom Delhi), with deliveries through Blue Square dealerships from mid-September.

Engine
The R2 uses a 204cc liquid-cooled, four-valve DOHC single making 26.5 PS at 10,000rpm and 19.1Nm at 8,000rpm, with an 11.5:1 compression ratio and a six-speed box with an assist and slipper clutch. It slots neatly between the R15 and the R3.
Chassis
At a claimed 149kg the R2 is the lightest bike in its class, helped by a high-tensile steel tubular diamond frame that is 2.8kg lighter than the R15’s. There are 37mm upside-down forks up front and a monoshock at the rear, a 1,340mm wheelbase and an 810mm seat. Braking is by a 282mm floating front disc with a radially mounted four-piston caliper, and dual-channel ABS is standard.
Electronics
A 5-inch colour TFT display carries Y-Connect connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. Yamaha Riding Control offers Street, Sport, Rain and Custom modes, and traction control is standard. The bi-directional quickshifter is limited to the middle and top variants.
R2M extras
The flagship adds a smart key, adjustable front and rear preload, five-position adjustable levers, a faux-suede seat, a silver swingarm and an exclusive Metallic Gray paint. Rivals are the KTM RC 200, Hero Karizma XMR 210 and Bajaj Pulsar RS200.
