SUVs have taken the world by storm. In this age and era, everyone aspires to drive an SUV, irrespective of the price category they belong to. However, May was a month which saw a sedan, the Maruti Dzire lead the sales chart. But, there was one car, neither an SUV, nor a sedan which led the popularity charts in the country. We are talking about the MG Comet EV, a unique hatchback which is aimed at customers looking for a convenient city car. Let’s discuss how it became the most popular in May.

MG Comet EV – Most Popular In May

MG COMET EV WHY IS IT POPULAR

MG had been struggling to maintain the Comet’s sales momentum since the start of this year. The brand sold just828 units of the Comet EV this year (January to April). In April, it managed only 191 units. However, the month of May has turned this EV’s fortune around. MG saw a massive 331% growth in sales for the Comet EV, selling a total of 823 units. This is really impressive as the brand has managed to sell as many units of the Comet EV as it could collectively sell till April this year.

MG COMET EV MOST POPULAR CAR

The MG Comet EV is priced between Rs 7.76 lakh and Rs 10.39 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and is a very niche product. Most people that pick this hatchback belong to a category of buyers that want a car just for city use. Its small footprint, compact dimensions, a real-world range of 180-190kms and tall-body design help it serve as a great city car. The compact dimensions allow it to be parked in tight spaces and be driven through narrow city lanes. Moreover, driving in traffic is not an issue since the range does not drop drastically. The tall-body design helps the Comet EV offer impressive headroom inside the cabin, even for people sitting in the 2nd-row.

The Comet EV comes loaded with a lot of modern features that give it a modern & premium feel. A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay and a 2-speaker sound system keep the user engaged.

Other than these, it gets all-LED lights, 3 driving modes, 3 regenerative braking levels, dual airbags, TPMS, power windows, electronically-adjustable, auto-folding ORVMs, keyless entry, front & rear disc brakes, reverse parking camera, etc.

Being an EV, the Comet comes with an IP67-rated battery pack which means driving through waterlogged roads is not an issue either. And with the latest sales figures in, it looks like interest in this EV is back!
