Mahindra Making India’s Own G-Wagon?

Share

Mahindra has been a prominent SUV maker in the country. With a lineup dominated by SUVs like the Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, Thar and Thar Roxx, Mahindra has been on the forefront to bring SUVs with butch looks and rugged road presence on our Indian roads. Mahindra is now readying another SUV which will strengthen its ‘butch SUV-maker’ identity, thanks to its boxy SUV design. We are talking about the new Mahindra Bolero which has been spotted testing frequently for quite a few weeks now. Let’s know more about it in detail and why we are calling it India’s own G-Wagon.

New Mahindra Bolero Design & Looks

New Mahindra Bolero Design

The recent spy shots of the new Mahindra Bolero reveal that it will get a proper boxy design, something akin to most popular SUVs across the globe. Interestingly, spy shots of the front-end reveal a round lighting setup; take a quick look, and you will be reminded of the Mercedes G-Wagon, an SUV popular across continents.

New Mahindra Bolero Side

The side profile is that of a typical SUV, and the spare tyre attached to the tailgate further enhances its look. The side profile looks well-balanced with what reports suggest are 18-inch tyres. Mahindra might offer the lower variants of the new Bolero with 17-inch tyres as well. Also, a close look reveals that the new Mahindra Bolero will come with flush-door handles. Looks like Mahindra is set to give the Bolero a major makeover!

The rear spy shots reveal that the new Bolero will sport a side-opening tailgate, an element which many SUV-makers ditch these days. Also, a vertically-stacked tail lamp setup is what we are expecting for the new Mahindra Bolero.

New Mahindra Bolero – Premium Features

New Mahindra Bolero Back

Media reports suggest that the new Mahindra Bolero will sport a panoramic sunroof! A panoramic sunroof, that too on the humble Bolero nameplate, now that’s something really interesting! Moreover, the new Bolero is said to come with a semi-digital instrument cluster, similar to what we have seen on the Mahindra Scorpio N. That’s not all; other spy shots have also revealed a radar module on the Bolero, hinting at an ADAS setup!

If Mahindra is planning a panoramic sunroof, ADAS suite and a premium semi-digital instrument cluster for its new Bolero, expecting features like a premium sound system, a big touchscreen infotainment system, auto-dimming IRVM, TPMS, multiple charging ports and connected car tech shouldn’t be taking it too far. Will the new Mahindra Bolero come with Auto Park feature? Well, that could be taking it too far!

New Mahindra Bolero N Or What?

New Mahindra Bolero Features

Looking at Mahindra’s current strategy of continuing a massy nameplate like the Scorpio (Classic) and selling it alongside its modern version, the Scorpio N, there are high chances that Mahindra might not let go of the current Bolero and market this as a premium avatar of the Bolero. Or, could Mahindra be replacing the Bolero Neo with this new SUV? Or, will this actually be a modern avatar of the Bolero and Mahindra might call it the Bolero N or Bolero Roxx? There’s no harm in guessing.

New Mahindra Bolero – Other Interesting Details

New Mahindra Bolero Looks

The new Bolero is said to debut sometime next year. This 15th August, Mahindra will be revealing a new platform with reports suggesting that it could be Mahindra’s New Flexible Architecture (NFA) platform. NFA is a monocoque platform and most likely, the new Bolero will be based on this particular platform. If this happens, the Mahindra Bolero, for the first time, will be based on a monocoque platform instead of a ladder-on-frame setup which underpins the current Bolero and the Bolero Neo.

The new Bolero is said to come with both petrol and diesel engine options, with both paired to manual and automatic gearboxes.
