The Mahindra BE 6 & XEV 9e have been enjoying impressive sales in our country. Both these EVs have caught everyone’s attention with their quirky designs and long list of features. However, with the competition getting tougher with more electric vehicles entering the market, Mahindra knows that it will have to do something different to maintain its competitive edge. This is the reason why the Mahindra BE 6 & XEV 9e are set to get a petrol engine. Let’s know more about it.
Mahindra BE 6 & XEV 9e – New Technology

As per latest media reports, Mahindra is looking to add a petrol engine to the BE 6 & XEV 9e. Does this mean that Mahindra will sell both electric and ICE versions of these EVs? No. Mahindra is planning to offer both these EVs with a strong hybrid setup. However, this system is different from what we have seen with strong hybrids like the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda City Hybrid, etc.
In cars like the Maruti Grand Vitara, the engine works in unison with a significantly large battery pack to offer impressive mileage figures and better performance. What Mahindra is aiming at is using a petrol engine to deliver even better range on the BE 6, XEV 9e.
According to the reports, a 1.2-litre petrol engine will be used, not to power the cars directly, but will be used as a generator to charge the battery pack while on the move. This will help in extending the range on the EVs, on the go, something that will be appreciated by people who plan long trips with their EVs.
Mahindra BE 6 & XEV 9e – Other Details

Both these EVs have been doing impressive sales and have already touched the 10,000 units milestone in our country. Last month alone, Mahindra sold 4021 units of the BE 6, XEV 9e combined. Surprisingly, the BE 6 more than doubled its sales from 550 units in April 2025 to 1206 units in May 2025. With the upcoming hybrid setup, Mahindra will be aiming at boosting the sales of both these EVs.
