Mahindra has given its country a lot of iconic cars like the Bolero and the Scorpio. These cars are still the top selling nameplates for Mahindra. However, there is one iconic car which was once part of Mahindra’s stable but had to be discontinued due to lack of sales and buyers’ lack of interest in the segment when it was available in the market. But Mahindra is looking to bring this iconic car back in a new avatar. Let’s talk about this new Mahindra car and the icon that inspired it.
Who Is This Icon?
Back when most buyers were still looking for cars that could return the best mileage, Mahindra brought in a car which had one purpose; to stand out from the crowd. Mahindra thus launched the Scorpio Getaway pickup truck in 2007. However, the general public failed to understand the purpose of a pickup truck in India, and the adventurers out there who did, were left unimpressed when Mahindra did not update the Scorpio Getaway for years. This led to the Scorpio Getaway’s downfall and Mahindra had to ultimately discontinue this model in 2018.
However, the story for pickup trucks has definitely changed and their market has been consistently growing in our country. We have seen numerous tastefully modified Isuzu V-Cross and Hilux in the country and this seems to be the perfect time for Mahindra to revive the iconic Scorpio Getaway and cement its position in the market. This is where this new Mahindra car comes in the picture.
New Mahindra Car – Scorpio N Pickup
We all know that Mahindra has been looking to bring its pickup truck back to the market. This was evident when Mahindra showcased the Global Pik Up Concept in 2023. What is fuelling this fire are the new teasers that Mahindra has been releasing for its upcoming cars/concepts that will be based on its new modular platform. There are a total of 4 new Mahindra cars that have been confirmed.
Interestingly, one of the concepts is being called the Vision SXT. We believe this could be an amalgamation of the Scorpio N’s looks and the Thar’s capability, something which the pickup truck could rightly channel. Or, the Scorpio N Pickup could be an extension of the Scorpio family and could be the Vision S which Mahindra has been teasing. For now, the information is scarce and we will bring more details as they are revealed.
New Mahindra car – What Will It Be Like?
The Mahindra Global Pik Up concept was based on the Scorpio N but was longer and wider to suit the pickup body style. Also, the concept looked modern from every angle. We expect the production model to follow a similar stance with chunkier panels when compared to the Scorpio N SUV. On the inside, we expect this new Mahindra car to sport a dashboard layout similar to the Scoprio N with a big touchscreen infotainment system, a fully-digital instrument cluster, premium sound system and sunroof. On the safety front, we expect to see a 360-degree camera, 6 airbags and Level 2 ADAS apart from the other safety features.
Talking about the powertrain, the Scorpio N pickup truck will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine capable of producing 172bhp & 400Nm of torque. This is the same diesel unit which powers the Scorpio N as well. Mahindra had confirmed that this engine will be made available with 6MT and 6AT gearbox options.Â
New Mahindra Car – Pricing & Launch
We expect the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup truck to see an India launch sometime in 2026. Before India, Mahindra would first look to launch this pickup in its primary markets like South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Middle East, etc. As far as pricing is concerned, we expect the pickup to be priced aggressively to give tough competition to the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross. We expect the base variant of this pickup truck to be priced under Rs 20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
