Hyundai has been a carmaker which has offered powertrain and gearbox options in India with an open heart. Naturally-aspirated, turbo-petrol, diesel, and even CNG, you have the option to choose it all. Then you get different transmission options viz. MT, AMT, AT, IVT and DCT, based on the powertrain you choose. Hyundai now wants to add another powertrain option to its portfolio; hybrids. Let’s talk about the upcoming Hyundai hybrid cars in detail.

Hyundai Hybrid Cars – What’s Coming?

Hyundai Hybrid Cars (2)

Hyundai has been planning a slew of hybrid cars for India. Media reports suggest that Hyundai is developing a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine which will play a key role in the brand’s hybrid strategy in the compact space. This 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine will most likely power the future updates of Hyundai Venue, i20 and the upcoming crossover, the Bayon.

NEW GENERATION HYUNDAI CRETA

Earlier reports had suggested that this 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit will also be the heart of the hybrid powertrain of the next-generation Creta, however, there have been some new developments. New media reports now suggest that the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine of Creta will be hybridised.

With this powertrain, the Hyundai Creta will face further competition from the Maruti Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Not just these two, there will be three more competitors waiting for it – the new Renault Duster Hybrid, Nissan’s Duster sibling and the new-generation Kia Seltos with its hybrid powertrain.

Hyundai Hybrid Cars – What Else?

NEW HYUNDAI PALISADE HYBRID

Apart from the Bayon and the new-generation Creta, other Hyundai hybrid cars are also planned for India. A new SUV, which is being planned for the Indian market and will rival the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV700 will come with a hybrid powertrain. Interestingly, this particular SUV will be Hyundai’s first hybrid offering in the country.

Apart from this, Hyundai is also planning to bring the Palisade to India, sometime in 2028. The Palisade will serve as Hyundai’s flagship model in our country. In foreign markets, the Hyundai Palisade hybrid will be powered by a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and with the hybrid setup, the SUV will be able to produce 329bhp & 460Nm of torque.
