The fact that Tata Motors is losing sales is now out in the world. The brand which managed to sell only 37,237 units in June 2025 saw a sharp decline of 15% compared to June of last year, where the brand had sold 43,624 units. Models like Tata Harrier & Safari are losing sales. Moreover, Tata, which used to dominate the EV segment is being chased by brands like MG & Mahindra. However, new media reports have surfaced which reveal that there are multiple new Tata cars in the pipeline & the reports do look exciting. Let’s discuss the new Tata cars in detail.
New Tata Cars – Next-generation Harrier, Safari

Tata has already started working on next-generations of the Harrier and Safari. Unlike the current-generation, the new-generation Harrier & Safari will not be based on the Land Rover’s D8 platform. Instead, these SUVs are said to be underpinned by a new flexible platform which can support both ICE & EV powertrains, as well as All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) technology. This is one of the main reasons why Tata is looking to shift from the D8 platform, which had made integrating AWD tech a very costly, thus infeasible option for Tata in the current Harrier & Safari.Â
Another interesting thing to note here is that the new-gen SUVs will be longer by up to 200mm than the current ones. It will be interesting to see even bigger Tata SUVs on the road. As far as engine options are concerned, the new-generation SUVs are said to be powered by a new 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine capable of producing 168bhp & 280Nm of torque. We will have wait and see which other new Tata cars get this engine.

Moreover, the current 2.0-litre diesel engine is said to be upgraded since Tata has acquired the licensing rights to develop the Fiat engine in-house, and they are likely to heavily re-tune it to put a strong case against powerful rivals like the Mahindra XUV700.
Tata Altroz EV, New Punch EV

The Tata Altroz EV, which was supposed to be the brand’s next electric car after the Nexon EV, is still under development. Battery packaging issues are said to have caused the delay. The battery pack placement is said to be decreasing the ground clearance of the Altroz to 145mm. To increase the ground clearance, Tata will have to raise the Altroz, which will kill the stance of the car and Tata will not be willing to do that.
Tata is rather planning to revamp the Punch EV’s electric architecture to improve battery packaging space. This new architecture will underpin the updated Punch EV as well as the Altroz EV. Why does Punch need a revamping? Tata has learned from customer feedback that Punch EV owners do wish to plan long trips with it, for which, they will need larger battery packs. Revamping the current architecture will help Tata hit two birds with one stone.
New Tata Cars – New Compact SUV, EVs

Tata is planning a new compact SUV alongside the Nexon and the Punch. This new sub-4m compact SUV will feature a Sierra-like body style, catering to buyers who like boxy SUVs. This new compact SUV will be underpinned by a new monocoque chassis which will be capable of supporting ICE & EV powertrains. With motors mounted on both axles, this new compact EV could likely sport AWD tech. If this happens, it will be the first EV in its segment to boast All-Wheel-Drive capability. With that being said, AWD tech on the ICE version seems unlikely given the cost and packaging constraints.
Tata is looking to target lifestyle SUVs like the Maruti Jimny and the Mahindra Thar with this compact SUV. However, it goes without saying that this SUV will not be as capable as the other off-roading focused SUVs but will rather be projected as a lifestyle SUV.
The media report also suggests that along with the above-mentioned new Tata cars, the brand is planning two more compact EVs, codenamed Kuno and Terra, details of which are currently scarce. We will update you as details about these new Tata cars emerge.
