For the last few years, India has witnessed some of the top-class SUV launches. The affordable segment is ruled by Hyundai Creta, while the premium 7-seater SUV segment is ruled by Mahindra XUV700. Upcoming Renault SUVs – Engine Options

Renault is all set to disrupt the Indian car market with the launches of Duster & Boreal SUVs. The Duster will be a 5-seater offering and will rival the Hyundai Creta. On the other hand, the Boreal will be a 7-seater version of the Duster and will compete with the popular segment of the Mahindra XUV700. Globally, both these SUVs get a plethora of engine options – 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine & 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. Among these, the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine (154bhp & 254Nm) was jointly developed by Renault & Daimler does duties in some Mercedes cars. In fact, the same engine was offered in India-spec Duster, before it was discontinued. However, it’s still a suspense as to what Renault will offer among the mentioned engines.

What has been confirmed by Renault is the second engine option. It is a strong hybrid powertrain that will be available alongside any of the mentioned engines. Talking of which, Renault will launch the SUVs with a 1.6-litre NA petrol engine, producing 92bhp for Duster & 106bhp for Boreal. For Duster, the engine will be paired with a 1.2kWh battery pack, and motors, with a total output of 138bhp. On the other hand, for Boreal, the same engine will be paired with a 1.4kWh battery pack. For Boreal, the motors and engine will together produce 153bhp of power! Overall, with a strong hybrid, Renault will offer a combination of high performance with impressive mileage. However, it is important to note that hybrid engines will debut 12 months after the launch of petrol models!
What’s On Offer?

So when are the petrol models expected to be launched? According to sources, both the Duster and the Boreal will be launched in the first half of 2026. Also, both the SUVs will bring an impressive feature list. The SUVs are globally offered with features like – ADAS, 10.1-inch touchscreen system, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad and 360-degree camera in its package. Additionally, these are based on Renault’s CMF-B platform – ensuring 5-star safety ratings.
