May 2025 was a slow month for the Indian car market. The overall market saw a 1.1% drop in sales compared to April 2025. While 3,53,449 cars were sold in April, 3,49,713 cars were sold in May. 5. Popular cars in India – Maruti Jimny
Maruti Jimny is one of the very few lifestyle SUVs available in the country. Moreover, it is the most affordable of its kind. Its light weight & 4X4 drivetrain help it conquer tough trails with ease. This makes it a capable off-roader, even when compared to some really powerful SUVs.
Maruti Jimny is a niche product and this has always affected its sales. However, the month of May brought a 58% sales boost for Jimny. Its sales went from 431 units in April to 632 units in May.
4. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has definitely been a unique offering in its segment, thanks to a strong hybrid setup and the availability of an All-Wheel-Drive drivetrain option as well. Moreover, it comes loaded with modern features like a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Electronic Parking Brake, front ventilated seats, etc. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is essentially a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Grand Vitara.
In the month of April this year, Toyota sold 4642 units of the Hyryder, however, this SUV saw an impressive 63% jump from April and registered a sale of 7573 units in the month of May!
3. Popular cars in India – Mahindra BE 6
Mahindra has been on an onslaught in the country with its new-age electric vehicles, the BE 6 and the XEV 9e. Both the EVs have caught everyone’s attention, thanks to their standout design, exhilarating performance, impressive range and availability of modern features like Auto Park, AR-enabled Heads-Up-Display (HUD), 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, etc.
The BE 6 registered a 119% sales growth in the month of May, with 1206 units of the EV being sold when compared to 550 units sold in the month of April 2025.
2. Maruti S-Presso
S-Presso is the second Maruti on the list after the Jimny to have seen impressive sales jump in the month of May. Maruti sold 726 units of the S-Presso in April, however, this figure jumped to 1806 units in May. This is a really impressive 149% growth figure.
The S-Presso’s design might not have impressed everyone but it is one product which has all its basics sorted. It is offered with a 1.0-litre petrol engine which makes 68bhp & 91Nm of torque and comes mated to a manual or an AMT gearbox. The S-Presso is also available in CNG variants, making it a popular choice among mileage-conscious buyers.
